- In order to compare the ability of two kinds of bio carriers A and B with different density and porosity to treat wastewater in moving bed biofilm reactors(MBBR), two MBBRs, R1 and R2 filled with carriers A and B respectively, were used to compare their effluent quality indexes, biofilm morphology, physiological and biochemical characteristics. The results showed that the adaptability, impact resistance and the effluent quality during startup phase of reactor R1 were better than those of reactor R2. The thickness, adhesion and renewal rate of R1 biofilm were higher than R2. The activity of dehydrogenase in reactor R1 was also significantly higher than reactor R2. That is to say, a carrier with a higher porosity and the relative density closer to 1 has a better effect when applied to the moving bed biofilm reactor.
