- To improve the removal efficiency of nitrogen and phosphorus and to reduce the chemical dosage of a sewage treatment plant in Inner Mongolia autonomous region in winter, a sequence of measures was adopted to strength denitrification such as using anaerobic tank as denitrification tank in the Carrousel oxidation ditch, extending hydraulic retention time, increasing sludge age and reflux ratio, dosing carbon source step by step based on water temperature. Phosphorus removal was enhanced by chemical coagulant in advanced treatment stage. The adjustment of treatment process reduced operating cost by 0.17 yuan/m3, in the same time, the effluent quality has been achieved the first level A criteria specified in the Discharge Standard of Pollutants for Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant (GB 18918-2002) even in the extreme case of water temperature below 6 ℃, which could be reference for similar wastewater treatment plant in cold area in winter.
