- In order to meet the quality assurance requirements in the process of polychlorinated biphenyls analysis in water environment, a certified reference material (CRM) of 2,3,3’,4,4’-pentachlorobiphenyl (PCB 105) solution in isooctane was prepared in view of the lack of related CRM in China. Purity of PCB 105 was analyzed by mass balance method, and impurities such as principal component analogs, water, inorganic elements and volatile substances in pure raw materials were detected. The analysis method of gas chromatography was optimized, the homogeneity and stability of the samples were explored, uncertainty of the standard values was comprehensively evaluated, and the formulated values were verified by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The purity of PCB 105 was 99.79%. Homogeneity of the reference material of PCB 105 solution in the prepared isooctane was good, and the value was stable at room temperature for 22 months. The relative extended uncertainty of the characteristic value of the reference material was 2%, and the certified value was consistent with those of similar reference material. The prepared CRM can be used for the quality control and quality assurance during analysis of PCB 105 in water environment.
