- In view of the complex and systemic characteristics of wastewater treatment plant (WWTP), the upgrading and retrofitting idea based on systematic concept is proposed. Taking the upgrading project of a wastewater treatment plant in the south of China as a case, the application of systematic concept is discussed from the aspects of status investigation and analysis, target determination, scheme comparison and design, and project evaluation. The combined scheme of MBBR process and sand efficient sedimentation tank was put forward to improve the modified AAO process. The effluent water quality can stably meet the more stringent requirement of the first level A criteria specified in the Discharge Standard of Pollutants for Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant(GB 18918-2002) and the first level criteria for the second period in Discharge Limits of Water Pollutants (DB 44/26-2001)by Guangdong Province.
