- Abstract:
- The design scale of PADMA Water Plant water intake project in Bangladesh is 47.25 × 104 m3/d. In the early stage of the project, Padma River was selected as the ideal water source by multi?dimensional comparison. The river is a wandering river channel and is characterized by high sediment concentration (the maximum value is 2.43 kg/m3) in rainy season and serious erosion and silting of the riverbed. According to the characteristics of the Padma River, reasonable water intake points were determined by analyzing the channel change map of the Padma River in the past nearly 40 years, and the water intake channel was optimized to be a Y?shaped open channel through model simulation. In addition, a trailing suction dredger with minimum disturbance to water body was applied to solve the risk of open channel silt. Slope revetment was selected in the project, its upper part was protected by concrete block, and riprap was adopted by the foot revetment to prevent wave erosion and current erosion. The water intake pump room was equipped with a stoplog gate, a grid, a heavy hammer hydraulic control valve and other facilities to prevent the sediment at the bottom of the open channel entering the water intake pump room under the operating condition of high water level in the rainy season, so as to achieve the purpose of layered, safe and efficient water intake. The water intake project has hitherto run well, which verifies the safety and reliability of the project.
