- Abstract:
- The microplastic pollution in the global water environment has attracted increasing attention. Microplastics in the surface water samples collected from 22 slow?flowing water in Suzhou, a typical southern water town, were investigated. It was found that the abundance of microplastics reached 3.50-12.00 items/L. All of the plastics collected were categorized according to shape, color and size. Black (30.79%) was the dominant polymer; blue, transparent and red microplastics accounted for 28.57%, 21.59% and 19.05%, respectively. Fiber (85.40%) was the most abundant type; particles, films and fragments accounted for 5.40%, 3.80% and 5.40%, respectively. The particle size of microplastics was mainly concentrated in 30-40 μm, accounting for 26.25%. The results suggest that different levels of microplastic pollution occurres in slow?flowing surface water which can provide valuable references for further understanding of microplastic pollution in inland freshwater ecosystems.
