- Water resources are key constraints for the future development of Sanya City. The rainfall data and the total water resources of Sanya City in the past 22 years were analyzed, and the total amount of water resources were 15.95×108 m3, 13.83×108 m3 and 11.18×108 m3 respectively under the rainfall guarantee rate of 50%, 70% and 90%. According to the current situation of water supply in Sanya City, the total available water resources were 5.50×108 m3 and the demographic carrying capacity of water resources was 2.12 million (urbanization rate of 87%) when the water supply guarantee rate was 97%. The planned total water supply scale of Sanya City was 123.7×104 m3/d, and the local total available water resources were unable to meet the demand of future urban planning. Therefore, regional water transfer and new water supply sources were recommended to ensure water supply security.
