- The present treatment process of a wastewater treatment plant in Changchun was A2/O and MBR, and the effluent quality was required to meet first level A discharge standard. Now, it is required to raise the discharge standard and treatment scale simultaneously: the effluent quality is required to upgrade to surface water quasi Ⅲ class standard, and the treatment scale should be raised from 2.5×104 m3/d to 6×104 m3/d. The key problem of the project is to achieve stringent discharge standard at low temperature. Considering the quality of influent and effluent and the operation of the existing process, the MBBR and MBR combined process was selected in both the new system and the upgrading project. The effluent quality was stable after the upgrading of the project. The average ammonia nitrogen in effluent was 0.57 mg/L, and the average TN in effluent was 7.86 mg/L. Under the condition of water quality shock and low temperature, the effluent quality still stably reached the discharge standard. After the upgrading, the cleaning cycle of MBR membrane module was extended by 50% and the operation and maintenance cost was reduced. The MBBR and MBR combined process has high nitrogen removal load, small footprint area and strong impact resistance, which is suitable for upgrading or new construction of stringent discharge standard wastewater treatment plant in low temperature regions.
