- Exponential weighted moving average algorithm has a cumulative effect and is capable of magnifying minor fluctuations. Based on this characteristic, a method suitable for small leakage detection in district metering area was proposed. To improve the detection efficiency and reduce the probability of false alarm, Westgard multi-rule quality control idea was introduced into the logical judgment process of small leakage events, and it was appropriately improved in combination with the characteristics of increased flow after leakage occurred. Two small leakage events were simulated in a real water pipe network by releasing water from an outdoor fire hydrant, and the proposed method was verified by flow data. This method was able to effectively detect small leakage events and could be used as an auxiliary tool for active leakage control in water supply network.
