- The continuous increase of construction waste has brought serious harm to the urban environment, so it is urgent to seek solutions for its recycling and reuse. As a low cost and large volume recycled material, construction waste recycled aggregate has certain application potential in the field of water treatment. Recycled brick aggregate (RBA) and recycled concrete aggregate (RCA) were selected and used in the permeable pavement system. Five systems were built to analyze the removal efficiencies and purification mechanisms of Zn2+ and Cu2+ from runoff under different influent concentrations, rainfall return periods and antecedent dry periods. RCA showed better removal performances of heavy metals in the permeable pavement system, while RBA showed better removal performances when used as the subgrade. With the increase of influent concentration and rainfall return period, the removal rates of Zn2+ and Cu2+ by the permeable pavement system decreased. However, the removal rates of Zn2+ and Cu2+ increased slightly with the increase of the antecedent dry period. The removal rates of Cu2+ by all the systems were the highest, which were always above 80%. The two kinds of recycled aggregates showed certain application potential and prospect in the permeable pavement system.
