- With the increasingly stringent discharge standards of sewage treatment plants in China, the AAO and MBR combined process with short process flow and good effluent quality has been rapidly popularized, especially for underground sewage treatment plants with limited footprint area and high landscape environment requirements. However, the combined process is not a simple superposition of traditional AAO and new membrane technology, and the design of pretreatment, AAO, MBR and other units are obviously different from that of traditional AAO. Based on many domestic engineering cases, this paper analyzed the design points of AAO and MBR combined process in detail. For example, a primary sedimentation tank should be set according to the influent quality in the pretreatment section, and an ultrafine screen should be set to avoid the filament entanglement caused by fiber and hair. The particularity of AAO section lay in the determination of the three-stage reflux ratio, the calculation of the designed sludge concentration in each AAO section, the calculation of the actual flow of each section of AAO/MBR, the calculation of oxygen demand and the design of enhanced denitrification measures. The particularity of MBR section lay in the calculation of membrane flux, the determination of designed sludge concentration in membrane area, the calculation of pump flow and head, the design of the membrane air souring structure at the bottom of membrane area and the design of membrane cleaning method.
