- The current situation of bioretention swale near municipal roads in six national pilot sponge cities such as Beijing, Chongqing, Guiyang, Jiaxing, Nanning and Suining was investigated, and the existing problems in civil engineering design, landscape design, operation and maintenance of the existing bioretention swale were summarized, including excessive subsidence of bioretention swale, lack of energy dissipation and sand settling facilities at the inlet, lack of diversion measures at the inlet, kerb falling, poor landscape effect, wrong elevation design, garbage mixing, delayed plant maintenance and sediment treatment, overflow port blockage by dead branches and leaves and so on. To solve these problems, the methods and suggestions for optimizing the design of bioretention swale sinking depth, inlet, sand settling facilities, kerb, overflow port and landscape were proposed, and detailed drawings were provided to improve the construction of bioretention swale near the road.
