- Abstract:
- To achieve simultaneous removal of manganese and natural organic matter from combined polluted raw water, the removal pathway and performance of ferrous/peroxymonosulfate (Fe2+/PMS) system were investigated. When the Mn2+ concentration in combined polluted raw water increased from 0 to 1.0 mg/L, the removal rates of DOC and UV254 in the Fe2+/PMS system increased by 7.39% and 3.58%, respectively, and the manganese concentration in effluent ranged from 0.01 μg/L to 0.79 μg/L, indicating that the system could be used for simultaneous removal of manganese and natural organic matter from combined polluted raw water. The mechanism analysis showed that the presence of Mn2+ promoted the Fe2+/Fe3+ cycle, enhanced the formation of free radicals and promoted the formation of Fe3+, and its oxidation product MnO2 had a good coagulation performance. The kinetic analysis showed that Mn2+ enhanced the coagulation of Fe2+/PMS system mainly at the slow reaction stage, thus improved the removal efficiency of organic matter.
