- Abstract:
- Magnetic flocculation process is widely used for the advanced treatment of urban sewage. The performance of potassium ferrate enhanced magnetic flocculation for the removal of organic matters was investigated from two aspects of potassium ferrate dosage and pre-oxidation time, so as to enhance the ability of magnetic coagulation unit for the removal of organic matters in the effluent from the secondary treatment process. Potassium ferrate enhanced the performance of magnetic flocculation process for the removal of organic matters, and the treatment performance was stable when the dosage was 20 mg/L and the pre-oxidation time was 10 min, which demonstrated the removal rates of 16.21% for TOC and 43% for UV254. The decrease of total three-dimensional fluorescence volume showed that potassium ferrate could remove the organic matters such as microbial metabolites, humic acids, and fulvic acids from water. The molecular weight distribution showed that potassium ferrate had limited oxidation capacity, and mainly decomposed most large molecular weight humic acids into a large number of small molecular weight humic acid monomers, and the degradation was a two-stage dynamic decomposition process.
