- This paper constructed the carbon emission reduction benefit assessment system of sponge city construction in Xicheng District of Beijing from the aspects of carbon emission and carbon emission reduction, established a numerical model to evaluate the carbon emission reduction benefit, and discussed the factors affecting the carbon emission reduction by analyzing the life cycle process of sponge city from construction to operation and maintenance. The carbon neutrality of sponge city construction in Xicheng District of Beijing would be achieved after 8 to 17 years of operation, and the total carbon emission reduction benefit was 16 064-31 814 t in the life cycle of 30 years. There was a positive correlation between carbon emission reduction and annual precipitation in sponge city construction. With the increase of the total scale of sponge facilities in Xicheng District, the carbon emission reduction benefit per unit area (volume) of sponge facilities also increased.
