- Abstract:
- Feammox reaction was induced by stepwise increasing the Fe3+ concentration in an anaerobic sequencing batch reactor (ASBR), so as to solve the problems of high energy consumption, high cost and poor nitrogen removal performance of traditional biological nitrogen removal process for treating iron-containing wastewater. The characteristic including changes in nitrogen concentration and iron valence during Feammox start-up and microbial community during stable operation were analyzed. In addition, the control groups were set up for isotopic tracing to predict the reaction pathway of Feammox, and the influence of influent COD on the performance of Feammox was analyzed. The ammonia nitrogen removal rate was 53.03% after 90 days of operation. The removal of nitrogen in Feammox system was accomplished by three reactions: Feammox, Anammox and nitrate-dependent Fe(Ⅱ) oxidation (NDFO). In the stable operation stage of the system, Feammox demonstrated good nitrogen removal performance, and the iron cycle was realized. This study provides a theoretical basis for the treatment of wastewater containing high iron concentration and ammonia nitrogen.
