- Abstract:
- The national sewage sludge survey (NSSS) is a technical database for establishing and revising the sludge management standards in the United States. Firstly, the background and purpose of NSSS and the four national sludge surveys were introduced. Secondly, the process and method of NSSS are introduced. Thirdly, the three conclusions of the national sampling surveys in 1988, 2001 and 2006 are introduced. Finally, the enlightenment for the development of China’s sludge industry is summarized from four aspects, including regulatory framework and technical support system, dynamic index systems, investigation methods, and attention to emerging pollutants. And then, it is pointed out that there has never been a nationwide sludge survey similar to NSSS, and it is necessary to strengthen research in this area in order to better carry out sludge management work in China.
