- Abstract:
- In summer, the performance of conventional water treatment process is poor, because the water temperature of the lake is high and there are many organic pollutants. A dual membrane (ultrafiltration and nanofiltration) system with a treatment scale of 100 m3/d was constructed in a waterworks in Wuhan to cope with the increasingly strict water quality requirements. The influent of the pilot system was the effluent from the sedimentation tank or the sand filter of the waterworks. The performances of the submerged ultrafiltration-nanofiltration process and the pressurized ultrafiltration-nanofiltration process for advanced treatment of water were compared. The dual membrane system effectively removed suspended solids and organic matters from the water. For influent quality of the two pilot systems, the nanofiltration decreased the turbidity in the effluent to approximately 0.10 NTU and the UV254 to less than 0.005 cm-1, and could achieve the TDS removal rate of around 20% to 30%. When the influent was from the sedimentation tank, nanofiltration membrane could reduce effluent CODMn to below 0.50 mg/L in the optimal scheme. Compared with individual ultrafiltration, the combined process consisting of ozone-activated carbon pretreatment and ultrafiltration effectively reduced the organic matter concentration and mitigated the fouling of nanofiltration membrane. The combined process consisting of coagulation, precipitation, ozone-activated carbon pretreatment, submerged ultrafiltration and nanofiltration was more stable and effective for the treatment of lake water in summer.
