- Abstract:
- This paper developed an automatic monitoring system for urban pavement runoff quantity and quality at gutter inlets based on a mechanical bistable tip-bucket structure combined with UV-visible light spectrum, which realized continuous automatic monitoring of runoff quantity and quality in-situ at gutter inlets, so as to solve the existing challenges such as runoff confluence, limited space of gutter inlet, significant environmental disturbance and spatio-temporal variability of rainfall. The calibration and evaluation results demonstrated that the monitoring system exhibited robust operability and high spatial adaptability. It was capable of acquiring in-situ runoff quantity and quality data from the gutter inlets every minute, meeting the monitoring requirements for runoff flows ranging from 1 L/min to 200 L/min. The relative error of the modified tipping bucket dynamic measurement was less than 5%, rendering it suitable for monitoring various types of rainfall runoff. The system provided valuable technical guidance for in-situ monitoring of urban pavement runoff at gutter inlets and controlling runoff pollution.
