- Abstract:
- Haloacetic acids (HAAs) are by-products commonly produced during the disinfection of drinking water, and the occurrence of HAAs garnered considerable attention due to their toxic effects such as cytotoxicity and carcinogenicity. Standards for Drinking Water Quality (GB 5749-2022) establishes maximum contaminant levels for dichloroacetic acid and trichloroacetic acid as regulatory monitoring compounds. Additionally, monoiodoacetic acid is designated as monitoring indicator. Therefore, it is necessary to summarize and compare the standard detection methods of various HAAs. The optimizing process of standard analytical methods for HAAs in China, the United States, and Japan were herein reviewed, including gas chromatography, ion chromatography, and liquid chromatography. Moreover, the maximum contaminant levels of HAAs in the water quality standards of various countries were compared, and the advantages and disadvantages of the analytical methods and conditions of analysis are summarized. By synthesizing this information, the review aims to offer insights that could contribute to the development of an enhanced detection system for HAAs.
