- Abstract:
- Organophosphate esters (OPEs) have emerged as a new environmental pollutant, and have been detected in the tap water of numerous cities across China. Therefore, six representative OPEs monomers were selected to investigate the efficacy of prechlorination in removing OPEs in a pilot scale test. Prechlorination had a specific impact on the removal of OPEs in raw water, with the maximum removal rates of six types of OPEs monomers reaching up to 27.84%. Notably, a pronounced removal performance of aryl organophosphate esters was observed, while the removal efficiency of chlorinated organophosphates was poor. After considering the cost of treatment and the generation of disinfection by- products, it was recommended that the optimal dosage of NaClO should be 1.5 mg/L. This dosage resulted in the removal of 23.73% of the total OPEs in raw water.
