- Abstract:
- There are a series of problems in traditional water environment management, such as localization, decentralization, linearization, and the necessity of repeated treatment. These issues are particularly significant in water rich rural-urban fringe, characterized by a wide range, diversity, large quantity, and strong dispersion, making the water environment problems more complex. Using Dongxihu District of Wuhan as an example, system treatment strategies for watershed in water rich rural-urban fringe are proposed. These management strategies, based on the concept of systematic basin governance, consider the relationships among onshore, underwater, upstream, and downstream areas. Focusing on water safety, water environment quality, and water ecological aspects, these management strategies aim to address emerging water environment challenges in water?rich cities under various development and construction situations. Following the implementation of numerous projects, all inferior class Ⅴ lakes have been eliminated, with five lakes reaching class Ⅲ and ten lakes reaching class Ⅳ water quality. The watershed system governance has achieved remarkable results, and it can provide a benchmark for urban water environment management.
