- Abstract:
- In this paper, granular sludge capable of biological phosphorus removal was successfully cultivated in a sequencing batch reactor (SBR) through the regulation of operational parameters. In the steady state, white granular sludge constituted the predominant component, while yellow granular sludge was also observed in the reactor. When the concentration of PO43--P was below 55 mg/L, its removal efficiency exceeded 98%. The high?throughput sequencing results obtained from Illumina MiSeq indicated that the white granular sludge predominantly comprised phosphate- accumulating organisms, specifically Candidatus_Accumulibacter, as well as denitrifying phosphate- accumulating organisms Pseudomonas, which together accounted for relative abundance of 46.3%. In the yellow granular sludge, the predominant bacterial species, glycogen-accumulating organisms Defluviicoccus and Candidatus_Competibacter, constituted 33.5% of the microbial community, suggesting that the color of granular sludge might be influenced by its dominant bacterial groups.
