- Abstract:
- The flood control capacity of a river in a high-density urban built-up area in Chengdu does not meet established standards, and the limited river space contributes to significant backwater upstream and recurrent waterlogging within the vicinity. In this paper, the InfoWorks ICM software was employed to develop a regional model. Through comprehensive hydrological calculations and numerical simulation analysis across multiple schemes, a system engineering approach was proposed that integrated moderate horizontal widening, reasonable vertical excavation, and regional pumping discharge management. This strategy had the potential to lower the river’s 200-year flood level by 0-3.45 meters, and resulted in the reduction of four pumping stations and the elimination of eight waterlogging points. Furthermore, the proposed scheme decreased the backwater length in the river by 2.9 kilometers, mitigated waterlogging issues in the region, and elevated the flood control standard of local waterways to a once-in-200-year.
