- Abstract:
- In the southern region of China, a waterworks utilizes a reservoir as its primary water source, boasting a designed water supply capacity of 6 000 m3/d. Due to the high algae concentration and low turbidity observed during spring and autumn, as well as the increased turbidity following summer rainstorms, an integrated water purification system featuring star-umbrella flocculation, flotation and sedimentation, and self-cleaning filtration has been implemented. The star-umbrella fillers are employed for flocculation purposes, generating numerous micro-vortices that can enhance the flocculation effect. By switching the operation of the air flotation or sedimentation processe, the system effectively addresses challenges such as filter blockage, shortened backwashing cycles, poor performance of air flotation in treating high turbidity raw water, and substandard water quality. Operational data indicates during the high-algae period, when the algae content is 8.32×107 cells/L, the removal rate of the air flotation process exceeds 98%. During the high turbidity period, when the turbidity reaching 772.8 NTU, the sedimentation process is operated, and the maximum turbidity of the effluent is 2.15 NTU. The total investment of this project is 3.8 million yuan, and the water production cost is 0.72 yuan/m3. Since its commissioning, both the quality and quantity of supplied water have consistently met design requirements.
