- Abstract:
- The landfill leachate membrane concentrate from a landfill site in Shenzhen was treated through a pilot-scale high-power ultraviolet Fenton (HP-UV Fenton) advanced oxidation process, the operation conditions were optimized by means of orthogonal test, and the treatment performance was analyzed. Furthermore, the performances of HP-UV Fenton and low-power ultraviolet Fenton (LP-UV Fenton) for the treatment of landfill leachate membrane concentrate under the same circumstances were compared, with a focus on the removal efficiencies of COD, TOC and TN and the improvement of biodegradability. Excitation-emission-matrix spectra (EEM) and orbitrap mass spectrometry were employed to analyze the dissolved organic matter (DOM) in the effluent from the two treatment systems. Under the same circumstances, the COD removal efficiency of the HP-UV Fenton system attained 83%, which was 13% higher than that of the LP-UV Fenton system. The removal efficiency of TOC amounted to 63%, being 12% higher than that of the LP-UV Fenton system. There was no significant disparity in the TN removal efficiency between the two systems. Regarding biodegradability, the effluent B/C ratio of HP-UV Fenton amounted to 0.25, while that of LP-UV Fenton reached 0.15. The findings of spectrum and mass spectrometry indicated that, in contrast to LP-UV Fenton, HP-UV Fenton had higher removal efficiencies of humic acid and fulvic acid in water and demonstrated a better removal performance for high?oxidation substances in membrane concentrate. The economic analysis indicated that the treatment cost of the concentrate amounted to 58.01 yuan/m3. In conclusion, it is feasible to treat landfill leachate membrane concentrate through the HP-UV Fenton process.
