- In recent years, the operation and maintenance of the sewer system in Nanhu Lake area of Wuhan were unsatisfactory. Based on the needs of urban development, it is essential to improve the quality of the sewer system. This study clarified the issues of sewage dilution, sediment deposition, and harmful gas escape while conducting a thorough investigation of the Nanhu basin’s sewer system. According to the characteristic comparison between traditional gravity sewer systems and pressure sewer systems, the Minzu Avenue, Nanhu Avenue, and Central South University of Finance and Economics area were selected as the first demonstration of pressure sewer construction. The planning and construction schemes of the three new pressure sewer systems were elaborated. It was expected to realize “point-to-point” sewage transmission, which might significantly improve the efficiency of sewage collection and transmission. The high flow rate of sewage in a pressure sewer system can effectively reduce the generation of harmful gases and contribute to the forced erosion of sediments, which is of great significance for the stable transport of sewage. In addition, this study also evaluated the economic, environmental, and social benefits while analyzing the key difficulties and operation problems.
