- Abstract:
- Microalgal-bacterial symbiosis systems have garnered significant attention for their potential to reduce pollution and carbon emissions. Extracellular polysaccharides play a significant role in maintaining the stability of biological systems, but their characteristics remain insufficiently explored. This review comprehensively examines the extraction and purification methods of extracellular polysaccharides from microalgae/bacteria in wastewater treatment systems and summarizes an optimized approach for microalgal-bacterial symbiosis. The composition and structure of extracelluar polyscaccharides from microalgae/bacteria are systematically analyzed, and the future research directions were envisioned. The composion and structure of the extracellular polysaccharides of the microalgal-bacterial symbiosis depend on the mass ratio of microalgae to bacteria, taxa. Additionally, the need for further investigation into the extraction methods, fine structure, biosynthetic pathways is emphasized. This work aims to advance the understanding of extracellular polysaccharides in microalgae/bacteria and microalgal-bacterial symbiosis systems, providing the theoretical basis for the integration of biological wastewater treatment and resource recovery.
