- Abstract:
- The stress response of aerobic sludge to disinfectant exposure in an AO-MBR system during the commissioning period was investigated using washing wastewater containing disinfectant from a white feather chicken hatchery as the influent. The water quality and working conditions exhibited a synchronous stress response to the impact. The system performance deteriorated on Day 3, marked by the issues such as disintegration of sludge flocs, a rise in transmembrane pressure (TMP), and an increase in dissolved organic matter (DOM), and it began to gradually recover after Day 7. 16S rRNA and ITS sequencing methods were employed to conduct correlation analysis on activated sludge samples collected at different time series. Bacteria and fungi that exhibited strong associations with these changes were subsequently identified. This experiment preliminarily validated the feasibility of utilizing integrated MBR for treating wastewater from white feather chicken hatcheries. Furthermore, it proposed strategies in three key aspects to deal with disinfectants: reducing pollutant concentrations, enhancing nutrient levels, and implementing intermittent operation modes.
