- Abstract:
- Bioretention swale represents one of the most widely adopted practices in the development of sponge cities within municipal road infrastructure. Influenced by a variety of factors, including green space distribution and facility layout, its design currently represents one of the key challenges in the construction of sponge cities. This paper proposed seven critical design considerations in response to the prevalent issues in current designs, such as arbitrary selection of facilities and lack of coordination among disciplines. These included the selection of bioretention swale types for municipal roads, catchment units division, cross-sectional forms, inlet design, pre-treatment facilities, overflow wells, and vegetation arrangement. Furthermore, it was emphasized that the drainage discipline should serve as the core, while a multi-disciplinary collaborative model involving five related fields (road engineering, electrical engineering, landscape architecture, structural engineering, and water supply engineering) was proposed. This method provides valuable references for similar projects.
