- Abstract:
- The hydraulic calculation process for determining the spray intensity at sprinkler heads and the pressure within the distribution mains in the effective area of an automatic sprinkler system is highly complex. While conventional manual calculation methods may enhance computational efficiency through techniques such as equivalent substitution, they often result in inaccuracies or deviations in the final results. The hydraulic calculation method based on Matlab, referred to as the M-point-by-point calculation method, enabled automatic and precise computation of the total system flow rate and the pressure at the starting node, using the sprinkler head working pressure at the most hydraulically unfavorable point as input. By leveraging Matlab’s built-in numerical computing capabilities, the method efficiently addressed iterative calculations and nonlinear equation solving tasks inherent in the hydraulic calculation process. In comparison with conventional hydraulic calculation approaches, this method reduced errors in pressure and flow rate by approximately 2.53% and 0.70%, respectively. The hydraulic calculation results using the Hazen-Williams formula under varying Ch coefficients were analyzed, and the significance of differentiating Ch coefficient selection based on actual projects was explored. The equations for head loss per unit length along the pipeline specified in current standards were compared to establish a computational framework that enables the application of Darcy-Weisbach formula in the design and hydraulic calculation of automatic sprinkler systems. A comprehensive analysis of hydraulic characteristics and economic benefit was conducted to optimize the piping configuration of distributing branches, and a practical methodology for optimizing pipe diameters of non-terminal distributing branches were proposed.
