- Abstract:
- Urban water supply pipelines frequently experience leakage accidents, resulting in significant water resource losses. Traditional leak detection technologies are often inefficient. In contrast, synthetic aperture radar (SAR) offers advantages such as a wide detection range, surface penetration, and sensitivity to changes in the dielectric constant of water. This study establishes a relationship model between polarimetric SAR signals and surface dielectric constants, combined with machine learning techniques, to identify suspected leakage points in water supply networks. The project utilized polarimetric SAR satellite data to detect leakage points in the water supply network of a city along the southeast coast of China, with on-site verification of the results. The findings indicate that polarimetric SAR technology is highly sensitive to abnormal surface water content and can effectively identify and locate observable leakage points in raw water pipes. However, given the multiple causes of abnormal surface water content, some misjudgments may occur in leak detection. Therefore, integrating additional auxiliary methods is necessary to enhance detection accuracy.
