- Abstract:
- Within the Xunsi River basin in Wuhan, the co-existence of separate and combined sewer systems, severe misconnections and cross-connections in drainage pipelines, insufficient capacity and overburden of intermediate pumping stations and end-of-pipe treatment facilities have led to severe combined sewer overflow(CSO) into the river during the rainy season, resulting in localized blackening and odor recurrence in the river channel. Based on the current pollution status of the Xunsi River and combined with the water environment governance targets set by higher-level planning, this study has sorted out the interconnections and constraints among various subsystems within the basin, analyzed the pollution source formation mechanisms and their spatial distribution characteristics in the basin, adopted the MIKE 11 1D river pollution assimilation capacity calculation model to quantify the pollutant reduction load, formulated differentiated remediation schemes (one policy per zone) according to the characteristics of drainage subzones, and developed pollution reduction target-oriented governance strategies. These efforts provide a referable solution for water environment governance of similar urban rivers.
