- An analysis was conducted on the purification efficiency, integrated process performance, and operating costs of the core process involving ozone-activated carbon coupled with ultrafiltration membrane for treating the micro-polluted source water from Douhe Reservoir. The core process of ozone-activated carbon coupled with ultrafiltration membrane technology was suitable for the treatment of micro-polluted reservoir water. The ultrafiltration membrane effluent exhibited a turbidity of less than 0.03 NTU, and the permanganate index met the class Ⅰ limit for surface water quality specified in the standard. Sodium hypochlorite was employed for periodic maintenance cleaning of the ultrafiltration membrane, conducted approximately every 16 days, which effectively stabilized the transmembrane pressure difference within the range of 4 kPa to 12 kPa. This outcome demonstrated that the integrated process, featuring a granular activated carbon filter positioned upstream of the ultrafiltration membrane, operated with high stability. Furthermore, the ultrafiltration membrane effectively retained residual activated carbon particles, thereby ensuring consistent effluent quality. When the carbon filter was placed before the ultrafiltration membrane, the activated carbon consumption was rapid and could be replenished based on changes in its iodine value. The analysis of the operating costs between the present process and the short-process ultrafiltration membrane process indicated that the unit sodium hypochlorite consumption was 2.5 mg/L and 4.9 mg/L, respectively, while the specific energy consumption for water production was 0.18 kW·h/m3 and 0.19 kW·h/m3, respectively. The present process exhibited lower chemical usage and reduced energy consumption, demonstrating superior long-term operational cost-effectiveness.
