- Abstract:
- A novel integrated photo-Fenton-nanofiltration (NF) process was developed to address the challenges of severe membrane fouling and low-quality recovered salt resulting from high organic content in high-salinity organic wastewater. This process effectively reduced organic contaminants in the wastewater, thereby enhancing treatment efficiency and improving the quality of the recovered salt. The COD removal efficiency of the photo-Fenton-NF process exceeded 96%. Specifically, the photo-Fenton process alone achieved a COD degradation rate of 94.6%, while the subsequent NF step further reduced the residual COD to below 60 mg/L, with a salt rejection rate of 75.5%. Through orthogonal experiments, the optimal operating conditions for the photo-Fenton process were determined to be a H2O2 to COD mass ratio of 2.5∶1, a H2O2 to Fe2+ mass ratio of 5∶1, pH of 3, current of 18.0 A, and a reaction time of 90 minutes. In the high-salinity system, the inhibitory effect of anions on the photo-Fenton process followed the descending order of H2PO4-, HCO3-, Cl- and SO42-. Following photo-Fenton treatment, the fouling of NF membranes was substantially mitigated. However, the presence of high salinity induced a certain degree of pore swelling in the NF membranes, leading to increased permeability.
