- Abstract:
- Commercially available sodium hypochlorite (NaClO) solution was employed, and potassium ferrate (K2FeO4) was synthesized via the wet oxidation method. The effects of various parameters including reaction time, NaClO concentration, the molar ratio of NaClO to trivalent iron [Fe(Ⅲ)], the type of alkaline solution, and the purification method on the purity of the synthesized K2FeO4 were systematically investigated. Additionally, the stability and performance of the prepared K2FeO4 were evaluated. When the molar ratio of the commercial NaClO solution containing 6% to 14% effective chlorine to Fe(Ⅲ) was maintained at 5.0∶1, the resulting K2FeO4 product achieved a purity of up to 98.43%. The use of potassium hydroxide as the alkaline reaction medium enabled the preparation of K2FeO4 with higher purity, eliminating the need for recrystallization. This approach simplified the synthesis process and enhanced the reusability of the waste solution. Ethanol was employed as the initial cleaning agent, and ultrasonic technology was utilized to purify the crude K2FeO4 product, thereby optimizing the reaction process and reducing costs.
