- Abstract:
- This article conducts an assessment and analysis of the carbon emissions of existing wastewater treatment plants in Changsha. The total carbon emissions in 2021 amounted to 365 600 tCO2-eq, with indirect emissions accounting for 68.00%. The carbon emission level is influenced by factors such as treatment processes, discharge standards, electricity consumption per ton of water, and pollutant reduction. Based on this, the article systematically summarizes the technical strategies for carbon reduction, carbon substitution, and carbon sinks from the perspective of wastewater treatment plant-drainage pipe network integration. A case study is also presented, focusing on the application of collaborative optimization carbon reduction strategies for the upgrading old wastewater treatment plants in the context of urban renewal. Through quantitative analysis, the case?study plant achieved a 12.21% optimization in carbon reduction by implementing typical carbon control and substitution measures. These measures included process simulation and parameter optimization, plant?based carbon sequestration scheme design, and tailwater reuse. After carbon reduction, its carbon emission level was lower than the average value reported of the same process in China.
