- In order to continuously improve the water quality of Dianchi Lake, Kunming has implemented Discharge Standards of Key Water Pollutants for Urban Sewage Treatment Plant (DB5301/T 43-2020). Its level A limits are equivalent to surface water quasi-class Ⅲ criteria (TN≤5 mg/L, TP≤0.05 mg/L). Focusing on this standard, the analysis indicates that advanced removal of TN and TP represents the key challenge in wastewater treatment. It is proposed to strengthen biological treatment and introduce dedicated advanced treatment units to meet the discharge requirements. Measures such as operation optimization, chemical and carrier enhancement, and process retrofitting can be applied to strengthen biological nitrogen and phosphorus removal. Advanced treatment requires the addition of dedicated denitrification and extreme phosphorus removal units. The engineering applications of different technologies under the high emission standards in Kunming are analyzed with representative cases, providing technical support and reference for the design of similar projects.
