- Abstract:
- Slaughtering and meat processing wastewater typically contains elevated TN, SS, and oils, while air flotation is always used for pretreatment. For such high-strength influents, conventional dissolved air flotation often relies on increased recycle ratios to intensify treatment, which raises energy consumption and operating costs while making it difficult to satisfy the stability and load-reduction requirements. Against this backdrop, a newly constructed wastewater treatment plant for slaughtering and meat processing wastewater treatment in an industrial park adopted a high-speed ion air flotation process. The pretreatment effect of high-speed ion air flotation and the original conventional dissolved air flotation on slaughtering and meat processing wastewater were compared through a pilot-scale experiment combined with a full-scale engineering. The high-speed ion air flotation has high pollutants removal efficiency for slaughtering and meat processing wastewater, and the average removal efficiency of COD, TN, NH4+-N, TP, SS, and oil were (72.6±9.5)%, (56.1±14.4)%, (35.3±7.9)%, (96.7±0.1)%, (95.7±1.7)% and (99.6±0.5)%, respectively. The high dissolved air efficiency of 98.7% and the generation of charged micro-bubbles effectively enhanced the removal efficiency of TN, NH4+-N, COD, SS and oils. The average TN and NH4+-N removal efficiency in the high-speed ionic air flotation were 3.6 and 3.5 times as high as that of conventional dissolved air flotation, which is conducive to the stable operation of the subsequent biochemical system. During full-scale operation at the 35 000 m3/d slaughtering and meat processing wastewater treatment plant, the operation cost of the high-speed ion air flotation unit was 2.67 CNY/m3, which is 84.2% of that of conventional dissolved air flotation and indicates a clear cost advantage while meeting the pretreatment targets.
