- The sponge city concept serves as an important approach to enhancing the safety and resilience of urban water systems. This paper mainly explores the planning and construction modes of sponge city development in riverside hilly area. It further analyzes the difficulties in sponge city construction and puts forward targeted strategies to satisfy water environmental safety and drainage demands, simultaneously address water pollution and urban waterlogging, and realize rainwater collection for drought resistance. In addition, this paper proposes site-adaptive implementation schemes for sponge city construction in Yichang, which rationally arranges construction projects and builds demonstration zones with government support. Finally, it summarizes replicable development modes applicable to similar cities, including controlling combined sewer overflow pollution in central urban areas, improving the resilience of urban waterfront spaces, establishing urban ecological hydrological cycles, and reducing the adverse environmental impacts of urban construction.
