- In response to the wide range of raw water quality variations at a water trea tment plant in the southern China and the shortcomings of the existing conventional rapid filter, and considering the limited land available for the water treatment plant, after a series of scheme comparisons, the conventional rapid filter was upgraded in situ to a reverse shutter filter. Additionally, an automatic control system and an air-water backwashing system were added to further enhance the water quality of the filter effluent and ensure the safety of the water supply. After the renovation, the fluctuation range of the filter effluent turbidity was significantly, narrowed from 0.314-0.911 NTU to 0.098-0.351 NTU, and the average turbidity removal rate increased to 91.5% from 78.9%. After the filter was renovated, it successively withstood the tests of abnormally turbid water, high turbidity water, low temperature and low turbidity water, and high algae water. Even after 8 years of use, the turbidity of the filter effluent could still be maintained at 0.2-0.4 NTU. Additionally, due to the aging of the sealing rubber material and the failure of the valve connecting rod to fully extend after long-term use, the drainage flap valve of the No.1 filter began to leak, it needs to be repaired.
