- Abstract:
- Based on the dual gradient synergistic flocculation principle with respect to molecular weight and charge density, a series of composite cationic flocculants, denoted as PDAC, were successfully prepared by combining poly dimethyldiallylammonium chloride (PDA), which possesses a high charge density and moderate molecular weight, with cationic polyacrylamide (CPAM), which features a low charge density and high molecular weight. Through simulation tests, PDAC-1 was identified as the optimal flocculant among the PDAC products and was subsequently applied in plate and frame filter press trials for the Taihu Lake dredging project. The results showed that at a PDAC-1 dosage of 1.2% (based on dry sludge mass), the feeding and pressing time was reduced from 4 000 s + 400 s with the conventional polyaluminum chloride (PAC) + CPAM scheme to 1 500 s + 100 s. The moisture content of the filter cake was lowered to a minimum of 25.7%, the operational efficiency reached 5.25 m3/min, which was 3.28 times that of the control scheme, and the PDAC-1 scheme exhibited superior performance in terms of total nitrogen, COD, and residual flocculant in the tail water.
