- Abstract:
- To overcome the current technical bottleneck in diagnosing and assessing extraneous water intrusion in sewer networks, this paper proposed a P-value method that could characterize the probability of extraneous water intrusion risk. This method simultaneously considered the influences of both extraneous water quantity and water quality, and achieved dynamic assessment of intrusion risk at different locations along the pipeline by discretizing the P-value. The accuracy and feasibility of the P-value were verified through a full-scale physical model experimental platform. A total of 15 experimental conditions were designed, involving five levels of extraneous water volume proportion and three concentration ratios, with temperature and electrical conductivity used as variable parameters. The results showed that between monitoring points 4 and 7, the risk values calculated by electrical conductivity ranged from 0.00% to 3.15%, while those calculated by temperature ranged from 0.00% to 7.47%, indicating that extraneous water and native sewage had been uniformly mixed at a location 3 m downstream of the intrusion point. By comparing the risk level assessment results and the identification accuracy of intrusion points for both indicators under each condition, it was found that electrical conductivity exhibited higher sensitivity and accuracy than temperature at the same monitoring point, and thus should be prioritized as the water quality indicator for assessing extraneous water intrusion risk levels.
