Abstract:
As an emerging membrane separation technology, membrane distillation exhibits advantages including low operating temperature, simple operating equipment, and high salt rejection rate, which holds promising application potential for the treatment of industrial wastewater with high salinity, large water quality fluctuation, and poor biodegradability. In this review, we briefly introduced the basic principles, characteristics and classification of membrane distillation technology. Next, the research progress of membrane distillation technology in treating petrochemical wastewater, coal-fired power plant desulfurization wastewater, printing and dyeing wastewater and other typical industrial wastewater was reviewed. Finally, the obstacle of membrane distillation in current applications for industrial wastewater treatment and possible future development directions were discussed.
