- Abstract:
- The formation of disinfection by-products (DBPs) from dominant algae species, organic matter, and algae in the raw water of the Danjiangkou Reservoir, located along the middle route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, was systematically investigated under both pre-chlorination and ultraviolet disinfection conditions. The potent oxidizing properties of sodium hypochlorite exhibited the most significant impact on cyanobacteria. The intracellular organic matter of algae was not the primary precursor of DBPs. Instead, the main precursors of DBPs were the organic matter and the extracellular organic matter of algae in raw water. The formation potential of DBPs was assessed based on the chlorine dosage. The synergistic UV disinfection could lead to the formation of increased DBPs when excess chlorine was present.
