- Abstract:
- Mountainous rural areas often feature dispersed residential layouts and significant elevation differences, posing challenges for traditional sewage treatment approaches that rely on centralized pipe networks and treatment stations. To address these challenges, this study examines a typical mountainous village in Chongqing, implementing an optimized sewage treatment model through practical engineering experiments. The study introduces an improved drainage system that employs a combined intercepting approach and utilizes ecological channels for water collection. Innovations include the development of new interception facilities, such as novel interception wells, which balance treatment capacity with the direct discharge of rainwater and mixed sewage. The treatment station integrates an enhanced multi-mode process, combining a biological filter with an improved vertical subsurface flow artificial wetland, and incorporates resource recovery. Under various operational modes, the effluent quality consistently meets class I standards of the Discharge Standards for Rural Domestic Sewage Treatment Facilities (DB 50/848-2021) in Chongqing. Compared to traditional methods, the project reduces both engineering costs and carbon emissions.
