- Abstract:
- This study addresses the problems of aggravated ultrafiltration (UF) membrane fouling and increased energy consumption in dual-membrane seawater desalination systems, which are caused by jellyfish outbreaks. Focusing on the phase Ⅰ and phase Ⅱ projects of a seawater desalination plant in Qingdao, we conducted an ecological survey in Jiaozhou Bay from May to August. Based on the characteristics of jellyfish population succession and size heterogeneity, a dynamic coordinated interception strategy is proposed. This strategy involves a phased combination of interception nets according to the jellyfish succession patterns, coordinated with the operational scheduling of the intake systems for the phase Ⅰ and phase Ⅱ projects. This approach fully leverages the enhanced pretreatment process of the phase Ⅱ project, which combines a rotating screen with a dissolved air flotation (DAF) system, to improve the removal efficiency of organic colloidal pollutants. After implementation of the strategy, the average transmembrane pressure (TMP) of the UF system decreased by 23.1%, while the electricity consumption for UF operation and cleaning was reduced by 28.1% and 35.3%, respectively.
