- Abstract:
- To comply with the stringent COD discharge limits imposed by advanced wastewater treatment and high-quality reclaimed water production, ozone oxidation has been adopted as a key unit process in the tertiary treatment stage. Although some wastewater treatment plants utilize UV spectrophotometry to monitor COD levels in the ozone contact tank, this technique fails to detect saturated carbon-chain organic compounds and is subject to interference from nitrate nitrogen, thus precluding its direct application in automated ozonation control. To achieve effective process control of ozone oxidation in advanced treatment, this study developed soft-sensor models that integrated effluent COD data from the biological reactor with online instrument measurements to accurately predict the influent COD concentration entering the ozone contact tank. Ozonation experiments were conducted on water samples with COD concentrations exceeding 30 mg/L collected from the biological reactor effluent, in order to determine the oxygen-to-carbon (O/C) ratio. Based on the experimental results and on-site instrument data, a linear discriminant analysis (LDA) model was constructed to classify the influent characteristics of the ozone contact tank, achieving a test set accuracy of 80.0%. Finally, by incorporating the established models with the dynamic performance constraints of the ozone generator, an ON/OFF control-based system was developed for the ozone oxidation process, enabling precise and reliable regulation of ozone dosage in advanced wastewater treatment.
