- Abstract:
- The large amount of excess sludge generated in sewage treatment process is rich in nutrients necessary for plant growth, which provides a foundation for the development of a new sludge treatment technology, i.e., sludge treatment wetland. In-situ static chamber method was used to investigate the greenhouse gas emission characteristics of three sludge treatment wetlands during the sludge loading period. It was found that CH4 and CO2 emission fluxes showed obvious seasonal characteristics in the sludge treatment wetlands. The CH4 and CO2 emission fluxes showed the trend of summer>autumn>spring>winter, and the emission fluxes in summer were much higher than those in other seasons. The total CH4 emissions of S2 (planted reeds and ventilated) and S3 (planted reeds and unventilated) were 30.5% and 15.5% higher than those of S1 (unplanted and ventilated), respectively. However, the total CH4 and CO2 emissions (CO2-eq) of S1, S2 and S3 were in the same level, and the global warming potentials were roughly equivalent.
