- Abstract:
- To solve the problem of low TN removal efficiency in sewage by traditional activated sludge process, the removal of TN by a bacterial and algal symbiotic system was investigated. The activated sludge in an aerobic tank and algae on the wall of a secondary sedimentation tank of a municipal wastewater treatment plant were inoculated into the photobioreactor with built-in biological filler. The bacteria and algae were cultivated by feeding municipal sewage in the photobioreactor. The effects of cultivation strategy and aeration rate on the growth of algae and the effluent quality were analyzed. More COD, TN and TP could be removed by the cultivation method of lighting and static precipitation at daytime and aeration at night. The algal content in the reactor with an aeration rate of 300 L/h was higher than that in the reactor with an aeration rate of 800 L/h. Under the conditions of 300 L/h aeration rate and 34.4% water exchange rate, the removal efficiency of TN reached 64%-66% after 1 h aeration and 1 h lighting along with static precipitation, which was higher than that of the traditional submerged biofilm process.
